However, when a molten metal is added to the resulting oil-clay composite, the molten metal will not wet the mineral, but will wet the oil and form a resulting composite which will be oil wet with the oil forming the matrix. The resulting oil-wet composite of the prior art can have a number of disadvantages. First, the mineral is not in the form of discrete particles, but is the form of a relatively large-grained mass, and a subsequent separation of the oil and the mineral has been difficult. In addition, the prior art uses a large excess of the oil in order to insure that the mineral is formed at least partially as discrete particles. However, such an excess of oil has sometimes been difficult to remove from the resulting oil-wet composite, and may even be hazardous to the environment when the oil is not removed therefrom.
